Interview with Soren T. Christensen, Financial Planner & Wealth Manager

Soren T. Christensen is the Founder & Chief Planning Officer of Advanced Wealth Advisors, LLC in Naples and Fort Myers, FL. Would you describe your experience in the financial services industry?

I have decades of experience in the financial services industry. Clients have primarily asked me for assistance with retirement planning and asset management. These are two very important areas in the financial planning and wealth management field.

Would you describe your educational background?

I have a Bachelor’s degree from New York University as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Florida with a focus on finance. I have also studied investment analysis and management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Do you have any advanced financial planning or wealth management accreditations?

I have the advanced finance designations of Certified Financial Planner™, Certified Investment Management Analyst®, and Chartered Financial Consultant® professional. As a result of achieving these designations, I have extensive training in investment, retirement, insurance, tax, and estate planning. These accreditations also set and maintain high ethical standards, with rigorous enforcement.

How did you first get into the finance business?

After earning my Bachelor’s degree from New York University, I accepted a job offer assisting clients with advanced financial planning strategies. My team primarily worked in conjunction with clients’ attorneys and accountants to create a comprehensive financial plan, incorporating investment, retirement, insurance, tax and estate planning strategies.

What makes you passionate about financial planning and wealth management?

My passion for finance began while witnessing the Dot Com Bubble Correction of 2000-2002. I saw just how much wealth was wiped out and how much pain that created for many people. I wanted to become a financial advisor to help people avoid the suffering I had seen. Luckily by the time the next big crash happened – during the Great Recession of 2008-2009, I was in a position to help a lot of people.

What about the industry do you enjoy the most?

I take a real interest in the lives of my clients. It’s not just about them, but their kids and grandkids as well. We do comprehensive, generational planning. It’s not just about the investment accounts, retirement plan, or estate plan – it’s about brining all of these individual pieces together for the client and future generations or charity.

What achievement within your business are you most proud of?

The achievement of becoming a a Certified Financial Planner™ professional. According to the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., “Although many professionals may call themselves ‘financial planners,’ CFP® professionals have completed extensive training and experience requirements and are held to rigorous ethical standards. They understand the complexities of the changing financial climate and will make recommendations in your best interest.”

What memberships or affiliations with industry boards do you hold?

I have accreditations from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., The Investmetns and Wealth Institute®, and The American College of Financial Services®. I am also a member of the Financial Planning Association® which, “supports high standards of professional competence, ethical conduct and clear, complete disclosure when serving clients.”
